Ryu Umemoto began his musical career in 1992, working on Japanese PC titles as a freelancer. Most of his early work was tied to anime licenses or eroge titles, but these early soundtracks allowed him to grow and become more mature as a composer. He composed several graphic adventure titles for C’s Ware and ELF in the mid 1990′s, hailed highly for their emotional depth. His melodic talents eventually landed him several contracts with Cave in the mid 2000′s, granting their spastic shooters with his musical touch. Unfortunately, in 2011 Umemoto contracted a strange disease that robbed him of his strength and, after several months, his life as well.
LVLs. is honored to give tribute to a man most games outside of Japan have likely never heard of. The majority of his work has not been localized for the West. On top of that, America and Europe tend to shy away from the genres he generally worked on, graphic adventures and shoot-em-ups. Despite that, Umemoto’s work deserves wider attention, and, again, we’re pleased to give it some.
