Subjects of interest that we want to feature.

Music Wednesdays – The Kooks’ “Always Where I Need to Be”

A nice peppy song from The Kooks for you today. This is off of Konk. I like the overall vibe of the song a lot. I’ll need to listen to the rest of the album.

Trailer Tuesdays – Silent Hill 3 and Juno

Yeah, I’m on “vacation”, but I still wanted to do some of the lighter features over the week, and being inspired by the PS1 Silent Hill, I wanted to share the Silent Hill 3 E3 trailer. Ignore the crappy “Happy birthday” singing the first fifteen or so seconds. :p

And for something completely different, here’s the trailer for Juno, another of my favorite movies.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Artistic Discussion – The Good and Bad of Gaming Box Art: 5/24/2012

Good – Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (GBA, Atlus/Quest)

I love this box. It’s a delightful scene, with two knights contemplating while at a beach, with a castle looming in the background. The colors are perfect, and the logo doesn’t take away from the overall beauty of the art. Well done, Atlus.

Bad – Rock Star Ate My Hamster (Amiga, Codemasters)

O_x

Yes, I just crowned this the worst box art in 1988, but it deserves a second drubbing. This art is atrocious. My god. I wonder if Michael Jackson ever saw this one, because he should have sued Codemasters into oblivion for commissioning this unflattering caricature. The newspaper format of the box isn’t terrible, but the art promoting it is, and I don’t want to stare at a quasi-Michael Jackson making a difficult poo. This is gross. *runs off yet again*

Tunage Updates – Koji Kondo and Naoki Kodaka pages fully updated!

Slowly but surely that backlog is being conquered! I finally finished up Koji Kondo‘s page by compiling a proper discography for him, which took some time, busy man that he is. With Kondo finally done, I moved onto Naoki Kodaka‘s page and gave it the complete overhaul, and it has its videos all up to date and two new clips added in that I had omitted before. That leaves Michiru Yamane and Yutaka Minobe to receive the revision treatment, and then I can get into setting up posts for the new composers I’ve been meaning to do.

Music Wednesdays – Morningwood’s “Jetsetter”

Morningwood is a band that I think could have been absolutely amazing. Their self-titled debut was mixed in my book, but there were some gems along the duds (including this song), and I had hoped that the band would lean towards the hard rock sound that half the album or so featured. Alas, their next CD went the poppy craporama direction. Massive disappointment. The band broke up after that, but I’ll be able to cherish the few awesome songs they did.

Trailer Tuesdays – Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Princess Mononoke

Hey everyone! Nester’s about to embark on a move, so he will be unable to keep up his features for a little bit. In the meantime, I’ll try to fit into his shoes on Trailer Tuesdays. Today I bring you the original trailer for Zelda: Twilight Princess, way back before it even had its surname. I remember seeing this with my fencing friends and I, who were all huge into Nintendo back in 2004. Man. We were excited. Twilight Princess ended up being fairly great, too, so I’m happy. :)

As for a film selection, may as well do my favorite movie! Hm, both have “princess” in their names. Coincidence?

Gamer’s Playlist – The Advantage Tear into Kraid’s Lair…Do They Survive?

Yes, I do love The Advantage (any chance you guys can reunite and do more of this stuff?). I spotlighted them a couple of months ago, but I finally got to check out Elf-Titled from my library and found it clock-full of excellence. One of those splendid tracks is Kraid’s Lair from Metroid. There’s a darkness in this track many others omit, and I personally think it’s among the better remixes of the classic tune. Enjoy!

Kraid’s Lair – The Advantage (NES, Metroid, Nintendo, Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka)

The Beach Boys Video Collection – Pet Sounds Promo

Continuing the Pet Sounds celebration today, here’s a promo video featuring music from the album.

I’m not exactly sure when this was put together, but I’m assuming it’s relatively recent seeing as how it uses the stereo mixes of the songs (unless it was re-dubbed with them). It seems to feature Mike Love on a camping trip, with the other ‘Boys occasionally showing up.

It starts off with the song “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” which I already posted today, but it segues into “Here Today” and “God Only Knows.”

Music Wednesdays – The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”

Honestly, I wasn’t planning on posting a Beach Boys song today. With the reunion and all, I’ve gone a bit Beach Boys crazy, and I’ve been trying to keep it somewhat under control. But then I found out that today, May 16, was the 46th anniversary of Pet Sounds, widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all-time, and I just had to acknowledge it. So, here is the lead track from that album, and one of The Beach Boys’ most popular songs.

Please pardon the indulgence. :)

Music Wednesdays – Mirah’s “Don’t Die in Me”

Mirah continues to wow me with her amazing songs. I need to get more CD’s from her. Anyway, this one is from C’mon Miracle, a more recent album of hers. This is a fan video done by Moist Productions.
