Now here’s where I get to have lots of fun. ^_^ What characters would I love to see enter the crossover of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3? We know 8 on each side, and if the roster is 30+, I think it’s safe to assume that 34 is a solid number to wager. So, I’ve picked 9 characters from each side (this is Capcom’s half, stay tuned for Marvel’s) – 5 returning from Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and 4 new fighters I think would fit in nicely. I’ve also tried to keep the tallies low for groupings – for example, I know we’ve got Ryu and Chun-Li in the game, so I only picked one other Street Fighter representative to be in the game. Beyond Street Fighter and X-Men, I kept my groupings down to two, and tried to not do too many of them. Let’s get started, then!
Confirmed Characters – Ryu, Morrigan, Chris Redfield
Silhouetted Characters – Chun-Li, Felicia, Dante, Trish, Frank West/Nathan Spenser
Who I Hope is Returning:
1: Strider Hiryu (Strider)
Strider’s MvC appearances were incredibly awesome, and he’s been lurking in the shadows about as long as this franchise has. It’s time to bring him back with a vengeance. His teleporting, slashing style would be a welcome fit into the comic book motif Capcom’s aiming for, and his design is badass. I’d love to see a proper resurrection of him.
2: Mega Man (Mega Man Classic)
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom had Mega Man Volnutt, who fit in with that crossover well enough, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Classic MM, and have to admit I was disappointed in his absence. His earlier MvC appearances were a perfect fit – I’d just like to see more power options for him this go-around.
3: Cammy (Super Street Fighter II)
I must admit my bias towards Cammy being in over other SF characters like Ken, Akuma, Sakura, Guile and Zangief – I happen to be pretty decent with her fighting style in MvC2. She’s been revitalized in SFIV, and Capcom’s been giving her much more attention thanks to that, so I think her chances are pretty high.
4: Jin Saotome (Cyberbots)
I adore Jin’s insane fighting style in MvC, and think his crazy flames of passionate justice would be a welcome sight in MvC3. His odds aren’t all that hot, I have to say, thanks to being dormant beyond a Tech Romancer appearance (which came out during MvC2’s development), but I’d still love to see him return.
5: Captain Commando (Captain Commando)
Capt. Commando was a natural fit for Marvel vs. Capcom, and I would be a little surprised if he was passed over in the sequel. It’s conceivable – beyond an appearance in Namco x Capcom, he’s not seen much action, but I think he’s got better chances to be in over some other Capcom properties.
New Fighters I’d Like to See Join the Cast:
1: Arthur (Ghosts n’ Goblins)
Arthur was so close to being in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. He was playable and had a stage in the works, but both were pulled from the final product. With many of the same team working on this game, I would have to expect Arthur being considered for Capcom’s side. Having a couple new entries in the franchise isn’t hurting his potential, either. I think MvC3 may be Arthur’s lucky break.
2: Amaterasu (Okami)
While Tatsunoko vs. Capcom may have been a better fit for Ammy, I think that my favorite Celestial Deity has a chance to see some action in MvC3. Her design would be a lot of fun to try to carry over into the comic book graphic style, and she has a lot of possible attacks, specials and supers to pick from. I’m hoping that Capcom sees her as a good player option this go-around.
3: Protoman (Mega Man Classic)
I didn’t pick Protoman for my Tatsunoko vs. Capcom hopefuls, but I’ve always pined to see him enter the Marvel vs. Capcom universe. His style could be like a cross between Capt. America and Mega Man, but even more explosive and powerful. He’d be a really awesome addition to the line-up, I think.
4: Katt (Breath of Fire II)
And finally, my wild-card. Katt’s likelihood of being in MvC3 are so small it’s almost pointless to mention her – the Breath of Fire franchise has been in hibernation for years. However, Katt would be such a good choice to add to this. She’s insanely powerful, has some interesting moves, and has a sweet design backing her. I doubt I’d see anyone from BoF, but if Capcom’s mixing it up a little, I’d suggest Katt as a possibility.
