Music: 52 Women VGM Composers You Should Know About – Miyoko Takaoka

Miyoko Takaoka (Kobayashi)

Takaoka originally began her career at Hot-B, working on Super Black Bass and Ancient Magic: Bazoo! Mahou Sekai before moving onto a few separate freelance roles, creating music for Wizardry I-III, Langrisser: Hikari no Matsuei, Terranigma, The Granstream Saga, and HRESVELGR before settling in with GUST to work on their Atelier series for several entries. There are a few other credits to her name (including Sonic the Hedgehog 3), but I don’t see clear proof on some of these disparate roles (and her Japanese Wikipedia page is not sourced properly), so I’m going to refrain from going too deep into tangents.

In 2011 she seemingly stepped away from composing.

Notable Samples:

“Royal Guard” from Langrisser: Hikari no Matsuei, 1993, Masaya

“Further into the Wide World” from Terrinigma, 1995, Enix/Quintet

“Underground Cemetary” from The Granstream Saga, 1998, Sony/THQ/Shade
